Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

The April showers have arrived! It will be good to get the dry earth watered after the March winds stripping it dry! Here's to the May Blossoms!

Now the biggest active issue in my life is recycling and reducing waste. Hence, I completely agree with Reduce, Reuse and Recycle scheme. To kick things off, let me give you an example: The Weekly Food Shop.

Reduce: Have a think about what you really need for the week ahead. There's no point in having surplus foods which then gets thrown out after it goes off. Think of all the effort into one food item such as carbon footprinting, packaging, materials used to make it etc. Not only yourselves should be thinking this, I passionately believe the supermarkets should be taking note. If you have the time to rummage round the back of the supermarket in their bins, you can see loads of great food that has only been thrown away just because it's past its sell-by date. (But that's another post). A great benefit to you in reducing your weekly shop is that the cost of your food bill is reduced...interested? It's all simple maths! So I would recommend sitting down for a few mins and work out your menu for the week ahead and if you could...cut out any unhealthy snacks and thus reducing them would result in a better diet and lifestyle for you!

Reuse: Okay, you can't exactly reuse the food you have just digested unless you are disturbed but there are things you could reuse from the weekly food shop. Plastic Bags. I'm not going to get into the morals as that's another post, but accept it or not, they will be around for a while. We use the plastic bags for everything whether it is a substitute for the bin, storage, packaging etc. Also, plastic containers such as butter or Philly Cheese etc. A great way to have little storage boxes. No longer do I have to look for the missing nails that I usually casually sling into a drawer. All great things to reuse.

Recycle: Now that's the kicker. I try to find anything that i can recycle if they usefulness is no longer. Most households in England has recycling schemes depending on their local authority. Here we have 3 recycling bins: Food waste; Plastics and Cans; Garden Waste. It is often heaving that we sometimes ask our neighbours if we can use theirs to put ours in! But you can argue to me that we need to reduce the recycling waste in the first place...you're right! Regularly, we review what we bring into the house to reduce waste. Cause and Effect!

I really do recommend to do the 3 R's. Most people recycle anyway but do not reduce or reuse.

I shall hope to tell you on a weekly basis the waste I have reduced, re-used and recycled.

Happy Reducing, Happy Reusing and Happy Recycling! If you want to have a very catchy song coupled with the taste of bad dancing...here's the right video for you!
